“Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times if one only remembers to turn on the light.” – Albus Dumbledore

A therapist is a professionally trained individual that can help you work through various mental health issues and/or transitional periods in your life. You might need a therapist if you are struggling to understand yourself, your emotions, your feelings, etc. You might need a therapist if you are feeling sad more often than you’d like, or if you feel anxious and cannot control your worrying. A therapist can help you get a handle on some of the things you struggle with; a therapist can help you understand yourself better and help you find healthy ways of coping with your feelings and life struggles. Sometimes it’s helpful to have an unbiased person to talk to; someone with whom you can speak freely and openly. A therapist can help you really get to know yourself and reflect on various things going on in your life, so you can continue growing into the best version of yourself.

Why do I need a therapist?

You're in the right place.

Your initial session or two will consist of gathering information. This means the therapist will be asking questions about who you are and where you come from. You will also discuss what brought you to seek therapy at this time, and what you’d like to get out of therapy. After the initial couple of sessions, that’s when the real work begins! You can expect a safe space where you can discuss anything that may be troubling you or things you may be experiencing. Your therapist will give you feedback, perspective, and tools you can utilize to help manage various symptoms. Therapy is not always easy; at times you may be discussing topics that make you feel uneasy or uncomfortable, but confronting these things is what helps us grow. You will never be forced to talk about anything you’re not ready to address. You will be in a partnership with your therapist and set the tone for what you’re looking to work through. In working with a therapist you can expect to gain insight and self-awareness, and discover how to overcome your roadblocks so you can ultimately achieve your goals.

There are many reasons people do not seek treatment for their symptoms, ranging from their denial of a problem to guilt and shame to not knowing how/when to seek help. Many times a person will put themselves in treatment when they accept they have an issue and are ready to get help, but often times it happens through family and friends intervening. If you are concerned for yourself or someone you know, it is ok to reach out for help.

Therapy wherever you feel most comfortable!

In addition to our in-person appointments, at Dr. Ditzell Psychiatry we also offer teletherapy. Teletherapy has provided much more flexibility for our clients; it has taken away the hassle and stress of a commute, it has helped clients with showing up on time for appointments, and it has allowed extra convenience and comfort. In addition to these clear benefits, teletherapy has proven advantageous in other ways. Because of the inherent nature of remote work, teletherapy can be done from anywhere with an internet connection. This means if a client is out of town, they do not have to worry about a lapse in their care – they can work with their therapist from anywhere!

what are the benefits of using TELETHERAPY?

Understand the signs & symptoms

Ultimately teletherapy helps clients progress toward their goals; it removes some hefty barriers that often get in the way of clients continuing with in-person therapy. It is accessible and convenient and offers a larger pool of therapists to work with as distance becomes a nonissue. Some people think teletherapy is a back-up plan to in-person therapy, however, we have seen our clients make wonderful progress utilizing teletherapy alone and in conjunction with in-person sessions. If you’d like more information or a better understanding of how our teletherapy sessions work and how you might benefit, give us a call!

Your first step is to call us to schedule your initial appointment.

Your initial evaluation session provides an opportunity for you to build rapport with the psychiatrist/therapist and provide them with some background about yourself and the reasons you are seeking therapy. In addition to seeing if you will be a good candidate for therapy, they will be able to answer your questions regarding services, confidentiality, and what to expect in treatment. With your best interests in mind, you will decide together what kind of treatment will benefit you the most.

At the end of your first session, if you decide to move forward and work with that therapist, you will be asked to schedule further appointments. At your second appointment, you will work with your therapist to set goals for your overall mental health experience and then begin working together towards achieving them.
