“A psychiatric consultation is a comprehensive evaluation of the psychological, biological, medical, and social causes of emotional distress”
A psychiatric consultation is based on your psychological, biological, medical, and social causes of distress. We will work with you to review current and past stressors, along with any relevant lab work and medical records to come up with a feasible, appropriate treatment plan. The initial consultation is typically 45 minutes in length and consists of the patient’s history, symptoms, and goals in seeking treatment. We will make recommendations for treatment based on this initial consultation and may request lab work to determine possible options for treatment.
It is important to remember that the issues you’re facing didn’t develop overnight, and they will not be “cured” in a day; any worthwhile treatment will take time, patience, and work from both the patient and the doctor. Jeff Ditzell Psychiatry is committed to each of our patients and is determined to work with them to improve their situation and get them better.

There are many reasons people do not seek treatment for their symptoms, ranging from their denial of a problem to guilt and shame to not knowing how/when to seek help. Many times a person will put themselves in treatment when they accept they have an issue and are ready to get help, but often times it happens through family and friends intervening. If you are concerned for yourself or someone you know, it is ok to reach out for help.
You’ve probably never experienced mental health treatment like this in Manhattan. We’ve completely tailored our practice around making you feel your most comfortable. Soft sounds, aromatherapy, and cool tones, are just a few things you'll find here in our healing space.
At Jeff Ditzell Psychiatry we are a psychiatric practice that specializes in services like Ketamine Therapy, Telemedicine Therapy Visits, Individual & Family Therapy, and Addiction & Substance Abuse Treatment.
Understand the signs & symptoms
Your first step is to call us to schedule your initial appointment. We work hard to pair you with a psychiatrist that we believe will be the best fit for you and your current struggles. Unless you have a specific provider you would like to work with.
Your initial evaluation session provides an opportunity for you to build rapport with the therapist and provide them with some background about yourselves and the reasons you are seeking mental health treatment. In addition, one of our team members at Dr. Ditzell Psychiatry will be able to answer your questions regarding services, confidentiality, and what to expect in therapy. With your best interests in mind, we will decide together what kind of treatment will benefit you the most.
At the end of your first session, if you decide to move forward and work that therapist, you will be asked to schedule further appointments. At your second appointment, you will work with your psychiatrist/therapist to set goals for your overall therapy experience and then begin working together towards achieving them.
