“For me, depression is not sadness. I felt worthless, like I had nothing to offer, like I was a failure. Now, after seeking help, I can see that those thoughts, of course, couldn’t have been more wrong” – Kristen Bell

Characterized by feelings of sadness, hopelessness, and worthlessness, depression is the leading cause of disability in the United States. Many people don’t understand the major depressive disorder, thinking it is just a low mood that a person should be able to pull themselves out of; unfortunately, that’s not the case. Depression is a serious illness and requires time, understanding, and patience. Depression affects men and women of all ages, impacting the way they think, act, and feel. It can decrease an individual’s ability to function in everyday life, including difficulties in relationships both at work and at home.

What Is Depression?

You're in the right place.

We’ll often hear from someone with concern about their family member or friend, that they’ve noticed their loved one has been acting a little different, seems sad and tearful, or has stopped wanting to go out and do things. They call with concern that the family member is more irritable, seems to have lower self-esteem, or is just not acting like themselves. These are all common signs of depression, and good reason to reach out to a professional for help.

Find the right treatment.

• More control, less chaos
• Improve your mood
• Better overall health
• Better sleep
• Pain relief
• Improve work quality

Depression can look different between individuals. For instance some people with depression gain weight, while others lose a significant amount of weight; some people suffer from insomnia (not being able to sleep), while others are unable to wake up and get out of bed. In determining if an individual is suffering with depression we look for changes in their normal activities.

Finding the cause for depression
Many people experience sadness, grief, or an occasional low mood; these are normal human emotions. Grief and sadness tend to be fluid emotions that are caused by a specific event. Depression is a persistent low mood and the “cause” can be difficult to pinpoint.

Understand the signs
& symptoms

Your first step is to call us to schedule your initial appointment.

Your initial evaluation session provides an opportunity for you to build rapport with the psychiatrist/therapist and provide them with some background about yourself and the reasons you are seeking Depression Treatment. In addition to seeing if you will be a good candidate for Depression Treatment, they will be able to answer your questions regarding services, confidentiality, and what to expect in treatment. With your best interests in mind, you will decide together what kind of treatment will benefit you the most.

At the end of your first session, if you decide to move forward and work with that psychiatrist, you will be asked to schedule further appointments. At your second appointment, you will work with your therapist to set goals for your overall mental health experience and then begin working together towards achieving them.
